Wonders will never cease. This is probably the season of strange births and very mysterious occurrences and scientifically, we don't have an explanation for them. This latest news is coming from Jigawa state, north west Nigeria, where a woman is alleged to have given birth to the creature below – a baby without a clearly defined neck and with goat hoofs for feet. According to the source of this story, the woman is said to have lamented her plight as this is the fourth time she will be giving birth to a strange creature. We cannot independently verify the authenticity of this latest strange delivery but as we get more information, we will keep you abreast. You will recall that some weeks ago, a woman in Warri Delta state, gave birth to a horse-like creature in a church under mysterious circumstances.

Govs drag Jonathan to court

ABUJA – THE thirty-six governors under the aegis of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, are poised for war with President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Government over what they described as excessive deductions from the excess crude account. It will be recalled that the governors have been having a running battle with the Federal Government over what they said was illegal deduction from the excess crude account jointly owned by both levels of government, just as both parties had opted for an out of court settlement on the matter early in the year. Rising from a meeting, Wednesday night, at the Rivers State governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja and expressing pain over the action of the federal government, the governors have resolved to drag the President to the Supreme Court to seek redress. NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCIL MEETING—From left: Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; Niger State Governor, Aliyu Babangida and other council members during the National Economic Council Meeting at the State House, Abuja, yesterday. Photo: Abayomi Adeshida. The governors also told Journalists that they were yet to discuss the proposed N5,000 denomination by the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. Reading a communiqué at the end of the meeting, Chairman of the forum and Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, said the governors threw their weight behind the Good Governance tours designed to showcase their achievements across the States in various areas of service delivery. The tour was conceptualized by the National Economic Council, NEC. The Communiqué read: “On the Excess Crude Account, Forum unanimously decided to head back to Court to enforce the Federal Government’s adherence to the constitution. “Forum supports the upcoming Good Governance tours as conceptualized by the National Economic Council (NEC) and plans to use the opportunity to showcase achievements of the States in various areas of service delivery. “The tour will be commencing tomorrow (yesterday), September 20, 2012, with States in the North Central Zone. “Lastly, the Forum resolved to embark on various strategies to deepen advocacy and administration of polio vaccines with a view to eradicating polio in the country.” At the meeting were governors of Adamawa, Edo, Abia, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Niger, Taraba, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Anambra, Imo, Jigawa, Nassarawa, Kogi, Yobe, Plateau, Kebbi; Cross River, Enugu and Gombe. Also in attendance were deputy governors of Imo and Jigawa. Settle out of court, NEC tells FG, States Meanwhile, the National Economic Council, NEC, has urged both the Federal and state governments to continue the peace talk on the excess  crude oil account with the possibility of an out of court settlement. Briefing State House Correspondents at the end of yesterday’s meeting, the Governor of Kwara State,  Abdulfatah Ahmed said “after considering a report by the Committee on the out-of-court settlement on the excess crude account litigation on the extent of the ongoing negotiations between the Federal and state governments, NEC encouraged the counsel of both parties to continue the consultations towards working out an amicable solution.” He noted that the council’s position was advisory. Abdulfatah said NEC also considered a presentation on the new Performance Measurement and Results delivery System in Nigeria, by Shamusiddeen, which has begun at the federal level with the recent signing of Performance Contracts between Mr. President and the Ministers and its extension between Ministers/Heads of Agencies and Permanent Secretaries. The governor said the council emphasised the need for the scheme to transcend the national level  to the sub-national level to harmonise performance management and tracking system and adopted a roadmap presented by the National Planning Minister to that effect. “NEC therefore agreed that the States should establish  a functional Monitoring and Evaluation Department to coordinate the implementation of the framework and support Performance Management; Conduct Sensitisation/Induction workshops for all Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Agencies and  Parastatals  and Directors; Governors Forum to adopt as part of Peer Review Mechanism; the National Planning Commission to co-ordinate the production of templates and provide overall technical support. The Minister of National Planning, Shamsudeen Usman  listed the advantages in the process which is being co-ordinated by the National Planning Commission to include improved service delivery to the public and accountability for results by  top-level managers; instilling sense of accountability and transparency in service delivery and utilization of resources; increasing efficiency and focus resources on the attainment of key national policy priorities, institutionalizing performance-oriented culture in the public service through the introduction of an objective performance appraisal system and Ensuring  a pervasive culture of accountability, across all levels of  government NEC also commended the Governors’ Forum for their decision to fully support and participate in the nationwide Good governance Tour which started today in the FCT. The commendation followed a report by Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom Governor and Chairman NEC ad-hoc Committee on the nationwide Good governance Tour on the preparedness of the governors to support the project with necessary logistics. The aim of the tour, according to NEC, is to properly project the effort of the administration to the people, seek the buy-in of the citizens on Government projects at all levels and sensitise them to support and protect such projects for the welfare and development of the nation. The Council also yesterday advised the states to embrace the programme of implementation already developed by the Federal Ministry of Environment which includes the establishment of an agency for the implementation of GGW. The  programme  is conceived  as a lasting solution to the problems of desertification in Africa.

Nigerian invents power-generating machine, makes Africa’s first local car

Perhaps, Nigeria would have joined the likes of Germany, Japan, India and Malaysia as an automobile manufacturer as far back as 1997 when Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu, an electrical/electronics engineer, a doctor of science and lecturer of communications and electronics engineering at the Federal Polytechnic, Owerri, made a prototype of his first ever all-African car which he named Z-600. The car which BBC’s Hilary Andersson described as the all-African dream machine, was made for the family market with a top speed of 140km (86m) per hour. Ninety per cent of its parts were sourced locally. For instance, the horn was a doorbell and it would have been the cheapest car on the planet as it would have cost just $2,000 to own one. According to Izuogu who had demonstrated a great flair for inventive and creative knowledge from early childhood, he was working on adapting the engine to allow the Z-600 to double up as a lawnmower or an electricity generator. With the usual Nigerian lackadaisical attitude when it comes to things that will help project the country’s image to the world positively, the authorities were not ready to invest money in the project and so in 2005, the South African Government invited him to build the car there. And since he who pays the piper dictates the tune, South Africa would have been the proud manufacturers of the Z-600 were it not for the incidence of March 11, 2006. Made by Izuogo Unfortunately, this dream was not to see the light of day. According to Dr. Izuogu, some armed men numbering about 12 broke into the Izuogu Motors factory on Saturday, March 11, between 1.00 and 2.00 a.m. and carted away various machines and tools including the design history notebook of Z-600, the design file Z-MASS, containing the design history for mass production of Z-600 car, and the moulds for various parts of the car. Said Izuogu; “It seems that the target of this robbery is to stop the efforts we are making to mass-produce the first ever locally made car in Africa. Other items stolen included locally produced timing wheel, locally produced camshaft, locally produced crankshaft, locally produced engine tappets, all 20 pieces each. Made by Izuogu Also stolen were ten pieces of locally produced Z-600 engine blocks, ten pieces of locally produced pistons, four pieces of engine block mounds, four pieces of top engine block moulds, ten pieces of engine fly wheel and two pieces each of rear car and front mudguard moulds.” The inventor regretted that not only did they lose over one N1 billion in monetary terms, but also time (about 10 years) and the energy it took to design and produce the moulds. “To worsen the matter, our design notebook was also stolen,” he stated. He regarded the incident as a national economic disaster because  the nation had lost a technological and intellectual property. Izuogu machine: Before the Z-600 car, Dr. Izuogu had been working on ways to provide the nation and the world with clean, cheap and environment-friendly energy source. So, after 33 years of intense research, he came up with a new branch of physics known as Emagnetodynamics, the branch of physics that studies the conversion of the energy of static magnetic fields into work. Before now, “the conventional electric motor was built on the principle/law of Michael Faraday which states that Force is exerted on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field.” The two laws of Emagnetodynamics state as follows: Force is exerted on a composite magnetic pole in the vicinity of an array of like poles; and this force is in the direction of the composite polarity similar to the array. Based on these two laws, he invented the Izuogu machine, also called the self-sustaining Emagnetodynamics machine, a kind of electric motor that draws atomic energy from the nuclei of permanent magnets and therefore requires no input power to operate. Dr. Izuogu According to Izuogu, there are two versions of the Emagnetodynamics machine – the non-self-sustaining and the self-sustaining machine which can run for upwards of 30 to 40 years. He added that soft iron machine or the hard iron machine could be built from each of them. He noted that the machines named M-1000 and M-6000, respectively, could drive 100 KVA and 5 Mega watt electric power generators with no noise, no pollution, and zero energy input. “The M-60 prototype machine has been built and demonstrated, while the M-1000 and M-6000 have been designed waiting to be built,” he said. Scientists have experimented with nuclear reactors in their bid to seek energy source that is clean, cheap and environment-friendly. However, this could not work as the dangers inherent in that are enormous. For instance, reports say that more than 20,000 people developed thyroid cancer and had to have their thyroids removed as a result of April 26, 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Till date, there is about 1,660 square-mile Exclusion Zone around the site of the Chernobyl disaster, 26 years after the accident. Unlike nuclear reactors, the Izuogu machine draws atomic energy without the dangers and complications of nuclear reactors. Izuogu said that besides generating electricity, the machine can also power big luxury buses and trams.

236 Kirikiri Prisons Inmates Regain Freedom

The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Philips yesterday released 233 inmates, majority of whom were awaiting trials at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos. This was part of the on-going new legal year programmes, and it was also a step to de-congest the prisons. Most of the lucky inmates have stayed for over 12 years.
Precisely, the judge released 133 inmates from the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison and 103 from the Medium Security Prison. The Chief Judge was empowered to release the inmates pursuant to the powers conferred on her under Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2007.
Meanwhile, the release inmates from the women prisons, also located at Kirikiri was shifted forward by the judge. In her remark, Justice Philips said, “there is a saying in the legal circle that it is better for 10 guilty persons to be free than for one innocent person to be incarcerated.
“We have gone through the list of those recommended for release. So for those of you qualified to be released, you are very lucky that your name has come up. So, go and sin no more.”
Reminding her audience of the promises she made before, she urged those released to turn a new leaf and go out to contribute their quota to the society, adding, “I promised during my swearing-in ceremony that I will do my best to decongest the prisons.”

Warning! Why Taking Painkillers For A Headache Could Simply Make It Worse – Experts

On so many occasions we have a numbing headache and before we even know what the cause is, we reach for the medication cabinet or wherever we have kept a sachet of panadol, paracetamol or ibuprofen and swallow a couple with water. Some hours later or the following day, the same headache is back again and the same process plays itself out once more and the cycle continues. I am not a doctor but I know that headache is not an illness in itself but a warning or symptom of something wrong with our body.

According to experts, that recurring headache is called ‘disabling’ headaches caused by overuse of painkillers and hundreds of thousands of people are suffering from it.
As many as one in 50 of the population regularly has headaches triggered by the very drugs meant to be numbing their pain. The risk is highest for those who take aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol at least every other day to treat either a headache or another condition such as joint pain.
The health watchdog NICE says that taking too many of these pills can actually make the brain more sensitive to pain, leaving the sufferer prone to further headaches.
Often they get into a ‘vicious cycle’ whereby their headaches get worse, they take more drugs and the pain becomes even more debilitating. As many as 10million Britons suffer from severe headaches but NICE is concerned that many doctors are not properly diagnosing the type of pain or offering the best treatment.
Many could be better off taking alternative drugs called triptans, inhaling oxygen or even having acupuncture, the watchdog says.
Professor Martin Underwood, a GP and Warwick Medical School researcher who helped draw up the guidelines, said: ‘We have effective treatments for common headache types. ‘However, taking these medicines for more than ten or 15 days a month can cause medication overuse headache, which is a disabling and preventable disorder.
‘Patients with frequent tension-type headaches or migraines can get themselves into a vicious cycle, where their headaches are getting increasingly worse, so they take more medication which makes their pain even worse as they take more medication.’

Like Father, Like Son: Snoop Dogg And Oldest Son Smoke ‘Joint’ In Controversial New Pictures

He is famed for his love of marijuana and has even had a book of his lyrics printed on smokable paper. So it will come as little surprise to most that Snoop Dogg has been indulging in smoking sessions with his son Corde Calvin Broadus.
The 18-year-old can even be seen lighting his father’s bong in sensational pictures posted online by the former high school athlete. His father is famous for his love of cannabis, and has been arrested several times after being caught in possession of the drug.
Snoop converted to Rastafarianism in July following a trip to Jamaica, claiming he is the reincarnation of Bob Marley and adopting the new moniker Snoop Lion.
It is their life and they can do whatever they want but for crying out loud, how can a father be smoking a ‘joint’ or whatever with his son? If he graduates to a more addictive and dangerous drug, who’ll take the blame? This Snoop Dogg or Lion matter sef get as e be!
